The questionnaire

The H&H Webranking survey begins with a questionnaire sent to capital market actors; such as financial analysts, investors, business journalists and jobseekers. They answer a wide range of questions on how they use corporate websites, revealing what information and functionality they require. The questionnaire consists of approximately 150 questions and is e-mail based.

A total of 540 respondents have provided input this year. The respondents are divided into four target groups, each with contrasting needs and demands to ensure comprehensive feedback: analysts, investors, journalists and jobseekers.

The companies

Over 800 European companies are included in the various H&H Webranking survey. The selection of companies is based on market cap value.

There are several more select ranking lists included in the survey, a European 500 list, comprising the 500 largest companies by market cap on The Financial Times European 500 list, industry sector lists and several national lists. For more information on the companies included in the 2009 edition, see the H&H Webranking Results section.

The criteria and review

The answers to the questionnaire are used when defining the review criteria. There is a direct correlation between the respondents’ answers and opinions and the criteria These replies shape the criteria, determining the importance and how points are awarded in each criterion. H&H make no judgement nor shapes the results or rankings in any way.

  • Objective and measurable criteria

The results from the questionnaire are used when defining the review criteria. This year 140 objective criteria are included and divided into eleven distinct sections; covering various aspects of content and technology. Together, the 140 criteria form the review protocol, used to form the ranking. The total score is always 100 points, making it easy to compare performances and developments from year to year.

  • All websites are reviewed twice

Using the stakeholder-defined review protocol, all websites are reviewed twice by two individuals, in order to be as thorough as possible and to eliminate errors. Companies who order a report are reviewed at least once more with their performance and position being updated according to any changes or improvements that are made.

  • New trends - criteria

The review criteria are the enduring core of H&H Webranking and are developed prior to the review stage of each year’s edition. Reflecting the constantly changing and shifting trends and technology of online communication, the criterion undergo continuous transformation and rejuvenation to ensure their relevance to current and future stakeholder needs. This year around 20 percent of our criterion roster has been adjusted and updated.
