The oil and gas giant Repsol-YPF takes the top position in the H&H Webranking Spain 2008 for the third year in a row with a score of 78.5. Second place goes to Telefonica (61.75), and the infrastructure manager Abertis (55.25) takes the bronze. Spain is ranked number 14 out of the all countries included in the 2008 survey, a change since last years 13th position out of 18 countries.
"Repsol-YPF has been a solid performer in H&H Webranking during the past five years and always managed a top-10 position in Europe. To be able to hold a top position during such a long time-span tells something about the commitment to the online medium by Resol-YPF. We are very impressed”, says Gabriel Thulin, one of the founders of H&H Webranking.
Repsol’s website also offers all a lot of share-related information and the annual and interim reports in an online version with complementary Excel-sheets which is highly valued by analysts.
Climbers
The title for best climber in Spain this year goes to the construction engineering company Acciona. The company has increased its score with 7 points. Other companies that improved their score from last year are the silver medalist Telefonica (+3), and Iberdrola(+2.75).
Spain vs Europe
There are 18 Spanish companies included this year and the spread of the results, within the country, range from 27.25 to 78.5 points with an average of 46.25 points, maximum score is 100. Challenges for Spanish companies remains in most of the areas in the study, but primarily within the Career Section (employer branding), Contact Information and the Website Calendar.
Information primarily aimed to students and information about compensations and benefit system is areas where Spanish companies can improve in the employer branding section.
The Website calendar has also become more important this year, especially since the website is the easiest way to inform and remind stakeholders about future reporting dates, AGM and analysts meetings. We believe that most of the Spanish companies lack this information especially comparing to other European countries.
Spanish companies perform better in CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) than its neighboring countries. Over the years the criteria for the CSR section in the H&H Webranking have increased, concurrently with the increasing expectations from the capital market. It is especially within areas such as Charity and Community involvement that Spanish companies show strong results. When it comes to charity and especially on how to address it, we see that southern European companies focus harder than their Nordic peers. However according to the questionnaire stakeholders from Eastern Europe rank charity information higher then rest of Europe.
