Tuesday, December 22, 2009

The French business daily Les Echos published the French H&H Webranking results today. For the fifth consecutive year the H&H Webranking survey evaluates French corporate websites.

Lafarge with 61.25 (out of 100) takes top position in the French H&H Webranking 2009 for the second year. Lafarge is closely followed by France Telecom, who retains its silver from last year with 60 points. Societe Generale comes third, with 50.75 points, taking a step forward from last year’s 4th position.

French companies are unfortunately still behind its neighboring countries when it comes to communicate online. Only 3 French companies are among the 140 best corporate websites in Europe. This year France as a country takes a step back, turning it at no 13 in Europe.

French companies are somewhat below the European average, 35.68 compared to 43.3 (average score for the 500 largest companies in Europe). France is below average on almost all of the 11 sections that are evaluated in the survey, especially around corporate governance and financial information, areas that are both highly valued by the target group. Comparing the different sections in the survey, it is within CSR related information and the Career section, where the French companies show strong results.

ANSWERING E-MAILS

Each year, the H&H Webranking team submits an e-mail inquiry to all reviewed companies as a way of measuring how well and fast they answer questions. E-mails are sent to both press and IR departments of the companies included. 40 out of 75 French companies didn’t respond at all to the email sent to the press office.

Finland is the best-in-class with the fastest average response time in our e-mail inquiry, the majority of the Finnish companies answered within 4 hours. Finland is closely followed by Norway and Germany, while Turkey and France took the longest in answering our e-mail enquiry.
