Repsol takes top position in the 2009 H&H Webranking survey for Spanish corporate websites. Second place goes to Iberdrola and Telefonica comes third. Spain as a country takes one step back this year, turning in at number 16 in Europe.
“This year’s winner Repsol stands out among its compatriots when it comes to online communication. Repsol is undefeated since we started to evaluate Spanish corporate websites, no other company in our survey can brag with this solid performance. Clear financial information has become increasingly important in this turbulent market and Repsol’s website is very informative when it comes to financial transparency. But the true success behind this website, is that they have managed to, at the same time, speak to the masses”, says Marcus Eriksson.
Spain shows strong results in CSR (Corporate social responsibility) related information, no 5 in Europe.
Like previous years, there is still a large gap between the demands of information from investors and what is actually presented on the websites. Spanish companies perform well in this section and manage to beat neighbours; Italy, Portugal and France. Presumably due to the fact that many Spanish companies are included in sensitive industries such as oil and constructive related companies.
Even though Spanish company performs well in some parts of the survey, challenges remain in the horizontal dimension; to inform stakeholders about what the company does. The Company’s website is the face to the world and we must not forget that there is a broad audience who visit the corporate website today. Spanish companies should therefore work on how they present themselves online and offer required information such as, fast facts, vision, market shares and the company's brand.
